We are an independent architectural lighting design practice with focus to compose the space using light as a tool, as a material to emphasise the elements of the architecture. We want to create the right mood through lighting. Our aim is to illuminate the space for the people, to enhance their experience. Light enables us to see, it shapes the world. Light is essential to the creation of architecture, it reveals beauty, function and form.
This stage is essential to establish a relationship with the client and get a proper brief, to understand the project and define the design approach. A conceptual report will be produced based on the information received from the client and it will be submitted with our design intent for comments and approval.
Based on the concept design feedback from the client, we will further develop and refine the conceptual design with preliminary lighting layouts on drawings, preliminary lighting schedule and details, to ensure that all technical requirements are met.
On approval, all development done on schematic design stage will turn into a final construction package. This package will have a set of full lighting details, control schedule, luminaire specifications, BOQ’s, load schedule, final budget and drawings.
To ensure that the design intent has been implemented from concept stage through tol construction, we will follow up on site and do the final handover of a project.
Established in the beginning of 2018, our projects range in scope, from private residences and apartments to landscape, facades, hotel lobbies and restaurants.
Rodrigo came to Dubai in 2007 from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden with a highly regarded Masters Degree in Lighting Design. During the last eleven years in Dubai he has worked on respectable Lighting Design Studios in a large spectrum of projects including the Anantara ‘Qasr Al Sarab’ resort, Box Park and Dubai Water Canal and many other prominent projects. Initially educated in Architecture and Urban Planning at Pontiff Catholic University of Campinas in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he took an interest in lighting design while working as an architect in Brisbane, Australia where he started his career as a lighting designer.
Laura graduated in architecture from American University of Puebla (Mexico) with a Masters in Lighting Design from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm Sweden. After graduation, Laura worked as an architectural designer and project manager and formed her own practice in Mexico specializing in lighting design where she was nominated for the LIT awards in 2019 and shortlisted for the Darc awards in 2018 and 2019. Laura expertise ranges from high end residences, restaurants and public spaces projects in Mexico. Laura joined La Luz to bring her charisma and extensive experience in all the stages of the lighting design process.
Sunil graduated in 1999 from the University of Calicute with a Bachelor degree in architecture & Interior design. Over 15 years of design and drafting experience in GCC with an excellent command of software (CAD, DIALux, Revit, Photoshop, 3D Max) and a good grasp of engineering design principles. Sunil is proficient in architectural, infrastructure design and drafting. Specialized in architectural lighting (interior, façade, landscape and street lighting) during his career, Sunil has the potential to work with limited supervision and have exposure to international lighting standards such as CIE, IES and locally ASHRAE.
Vanessa graduated in 2007 from the University of Sao Paulo with a Bachelor degree of International Business Management. After graduating, Vanessa has gained valuable business experience in both commercial and architectural aspects of the industry while working for Brick MENA, a prominent international architecture and real estate agency covering Brazil, Africa and the UAE. Working at La Luz, Vanessa manages the business development and client relationships on our projects. With a passion for good communication and design, Vanessa has strong abilities in project management, negotiations and business planning.
